Summer is the busiest time of year in mid-coast Maine. Many of us have so many visitors during the summer, we feel like we run a B & B for our out-of-state friends. It is very difficult for us to get away and enjoy the Maine that attracts thousands. However, on a nice day in August, a group of Camden Garden Club members spent the day together enjoying the beauty of Monhegan Island.
The group met at Port Clyde and took an early boat to the island. Monhegan Island is a “place that time forgot”. Members were able to explore Monhegan’s scenic trails, visit artists’ studios, galleries and shops. Members were treated to a personal guided tour of the island and lunch catered by The Barnacle Cafe and Bakery.
Monhegan Island beckons nature lovers, artists, photographers, writers, poets and GARDENERS – every person in search of adventure. The Camden Garden Club does great trips throughout the year. The next adventure will be kayaking around Rockport Harbor.
