Peonies, astilbe, rhubarb. The tables will be crowded with the potted abundance from members’ gardens at the Camden Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale on Thursday, May 23rd, from 9 to noon. Open to the public again this year, this event traditionally has been for members only. Last year, with great success, the sale was moved outdoors, to the edge of the Congregational Church parking lot on Elm Street (Rte. 1) in Camden. All proceeds go to the club’s Scholarship Program for local college students majoring in horticulture-related studies and a camp scholarship at Tanglewood 4-H Camp.
The Camden Garden Club is entering its 98th year of cultivating the art of gardening, developing and preserving beauty in and around Camden – like the trademark hanging baskets on lamp posts in summer and lighted wreaths in winter — and promoting civic improvements and conservation of natural resources. These good works are funded with the proceeds from the Annual House and Garden Tour, in its 66th year. As beautiful as ever, this year’s tour will be Thursday, July 18th.
